TITLE I

TITLE I, Part A Improvement of Instruction

TITLE I PART A 

The legislative purpose of these federal funds is to improve teaching and learning to meet student needs effectively. Ongoing broad-based planning and shared decision-making are essential for quality programming. Funds support Picayune School District in looking at increasing student learning and achievement through effective programming, professional development, parent and community involvement, and provision of a safe, orderly climate conducive to our teachers teaching and our students learning.

Picayune School District received its preliminary Title I FY15 allocation in the amount of $1,302,954.00.


TITLE II

TITLE II Professional Development and Class Size Reduction

Picayune School District uses its full Title II, Part A allocation for the funding of class size reduction teacher units. All remaining Title II funds are used to support professional development activities. 

Currently, Picayune School District employees four teachers with Title II, Part A funds. Nicholson employs three CSR teachers. South Side Lower and West Side each employ one CSR teacher. 

Picayune School District received its preliminary FY15 Title II allocation in the amount of $240,760.00. 


TITLE III ELL

TITLE III English Limited Learners

Picayune School District is committed to providing all students with equal access to all educational services.


TITLE VI

TITLE VI, Rural and Low Income Schools

Title VI, Rural and Low Income Schools grant funds are reserved for those districts which meet the general criteria of the grant. Picayune School District qualifies yearly to receive Title VI funds. 

Title VI funds are used to support activities which fall outside the regular academic schedule.

Typically, Picayune School District uses its Title VI funds to support academic tutoring projects.


TITLE X HOMELESS

TITLE X, McKinney-Vento Education of Homeless Student and Youth

Title X, McKinney-Vento Education of Homeless Children and Youth guarantees that students/families identified as being homeless have access to all educational services. 

Currently, Picayune School District does not receive additional funding through Title X. Picayune School District dedicates a portion of Title I, Part A funds and district funds to meet the educational needs of identified homeless students/families. 

Educational needs of homeless students/families are those defined as necessary to provide a student access to educational services. 

Due limited funding, Picayune School District does not use available funds to support rent, utilities, or personnal transportation needs of identified homeless students/families.

Picayune School District operates a Parenting Center located at 505 Laurel Street, Picayune, MS 39466. This office is staffed by a counselor, nurse, and two social workers who give direction as it pertains to services offered to those students and families identified as being homeless.
